For years, Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) has been used to make cosmetics and animal feed. Recently, it has used as a feedstock for biofuels. The current pending legislation will probably make WVO more valuable as a biofuel feedstock because it has already been used for human consumption, so it is not taking food out of the food chain, and will therefore receive preferential treatment with respect to credits.
If WVO becomes more valuable as many experts predict, restaurant companies will want to maximize its value. This may even mean they negotiate directly with biofuel companies and/or participate in carbon credits or other government programs.
